What makes a concert by Chicago-based alt-rock band Wilco so effing good? Simply, it's their incredible music. Wilco has been around since 1994. Their critically acclaimed albums include: Mermaid Avenue, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, and their latest, Sky Blue Sky. Described by Rolling Stone as "one of America's most consistently interesting bands" and "America's foremost rock impressionists," Wilco is an amazing assembly of talented, passionate, and committed musicians whose concerts are veritable bonanzas of inspired songs. Ashes of American Flags follows the band on their 2008 US concert tour. Filmed and recorded at some quintessentially American concert venues like Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa, and Tipitina's in New Orleans, Ashes boasts beautiful cinematography and intimate access to the performances. Between gigs band members offer brief, but fascinating reflections on touring. This doc is a real treat for new fans, and a must-see for longstanding Wilco lovers. Shannon Abel.
