At its height, Insex.com, a notorious "torture porn" website, boasted 35,000 members. Who were these users? Who was the site's creator? Who were its models? Known within the industry as the "Michelangelo of porn," Insex founder PD gets off on coercion, terror, Wonder Woman, Baudrillard, Japanese bondage, and serial killers. After years of struggling to explore his artistic practice within academia and the art world, PD retreated to the Internet. Live web feeds provided him with unheard of opportunities for interactivity and participation. The videodrome spectacle of six-hour S&M marathons guaranteed the site's instant success. But with money came power, followed by the realization that porn wasn't art. Soon the models' safe words were gagged by cold hard cash. PD's aesthetic goal of showing female orgasms devolved into a selfish pursuit of sexual gratification. And what began as a pomo experiment resulted in a porno empire. Angie Driscoll.
