An upbeat and engaging mix of investigative journalism, courtroom drama, and potboiler thriller, Necrobusiness alternates between an amusing account of a business partnership gone awry and a chilling mystery full of murder, blackmail, and betrayal. In Lódz, Poland, prominent funeral director Skrzydlewski, local pathologist Tomalski, and shady florist Sumera concoct a scheme to corner the market on funerals and burials by bribing paramedics to deliver bodies only to Skrzydlewski's funeral homes. Everything goes fine until other funeral homes want in on the action-and a paramedic confesses to poisoning 11 patients whose bodies were subsequently delivered to a Skrzydlewski establishment. Combining intimate access to the silver-tongued Skrzydlewski with the unfolding trial of Tomalski and further revelations of profiteering deep within the hospital administration, the filmmakers craft a stylish exposé that expertly unveils one layer of corruption and deceit after another.
